Up and down
Alpine pasture walks and 'Waal' irrigation trails
The west of South Tyrol is unique. Unique in terms of the weather and unique in terms of the many hiking opportunities at all altitudes. ’There are suitable hiking destinations whatever the time of year. Sun-drenched trails along the irrigation channels in spring and autumn on the sunny side of Val Venosta and a good network of hiking trails to higher altitudes in summer to escape the heat of the valley’, says Martin ‘Piri’ Pirhofer, hiking expert at the Jagdhof.
Piri wouldn’t say which alpine pastures and irrigation trails are the best. ’There are certainly many highlights in Val Venosta. But what you like and what you don’t like is up to the individual. It depends on your stamina, your sure-footedness and your personal preferences. That’s why we always talk to our guests so that we can give them the right hiking tips.’
